Finger Lakes Woodturners will host National Turner Beth Ireland (http://bethireland.home.comcast.net/~bethireland/pages/bio.html) at a special Friday night meeting on April 17th. At the meeting, Beth will talk about many of the facets that make up her career as a professional including her ventures into “Turn Around America”, her past and present work, and how she’s doing it. On Saturday, April 18th, Beth will be combining two demos, Turning With Your Mind and Turning Outside the Box. Turning With Your Mind includes creative problem solving so everyone can use a chart to come up with an original idea. Turning Outside the Box includes how to marry the bandsaw with the lathe to create boxes and patterned platters that can be turned on the lathe. This Saturday demonstration will cover many things and will be of interest to turners of all skill levels.
I encourage everyone to take advantage of this opportunity and to participate in these events – Beth is a seasoned teacher and everyone is sure to get a lot out of working with her.
As always, our Friday night meeting will start with a show and share at 6:00pm with a short business meeting and Beth’s lecture beginning at about 6:45pm. The Saturday demonstration will be from 9:00am through late afternoon with a short break for lunch (brown bag on your own). The Friday meeting is of course free and open to all. The Saturday demonstration is also open to all and is only $35 and we are still accepting sign-ups.
