FINGER LAKES WOODTURNERS
ARTICLE I – The Name of the Organization
The name of our organization shall be:
Finger Lakes Woodturners Association, Inc.
ARTICLE II – The Purpose of the Organization
The purpose of the organization is to encourage and develop
woodturning skills among the members. The
organization will foster the knowledge and appreciation of woodturning as a
craft and art form among the general public, hobbyists, part-time turners and
professional turners. We will accomplish this by providing learning situations such as:
- Technical Assistance
- Newsletters
- Demonstrations
- General Information through showing and sharing examples of woodturning
ARTICLE III – Affiliations of the Organization
The organization is a chapter, in good standing, of
the American Association of Woodturners (AAW).
ARTICLE IV – Membership, Dues, Fees and Special
Funds of the Organization
Membership in the organization is open to anyone, 18
years of age or older, interested in woodturning.
It is also open to anyone between the ages of 8 to 17 years of age with
the sponsorship of a legal guardian.
The Board of Directors shall determine the dues and fees of
the organization, subject to approval of a vote of membership.
The Fiscal year starts in September.
Dues are payable on or before the last day of September.
It is recommended that a member be a paid member of the AAW.
Guests may attend the meetings and functions of the
organization once in any given year. On
any subsequent visit they will be charged a fee of $10.00.
ARTICLE V – The Meetings of the Organization
A meeting of the membership shall be held at least 9 times
per year.
All members shall be sent a timely notice, written or
electronic, containing the time, date, place and demo information of the meeting
prior to the meeting date.
A quorum shall be defined as one-third (1/3) of the
membership and is required for conducting the business of the organization.
The meetings are meant to be fun and informal; meetings
shall be conducted according to the Robert’s Rules of Order by the
President/Chair or the designated presiding officer and shall contain, but not
limited to:
- Recognition of Visitors and Guest Speaker(s)
- Treasurer’s Report
- Reports from Officers and Committee Chairs (if any)
- Old Business
- New Business
- Show and Share
- Show and Share Drawing
- Challenge Presentation
- Program/Demonstration
- Adjournment
- Clean-up
ARTICLE VI – The Voting Procedure of the
Organization
Each paid member will be entitled to one (1) vote.
A simple majority of the Quorum of voting members shall
prevail.
Voting shall be by show of hands, unless the presiding
officer selects a different method.
ARTICLE VII – The Duties and Responsibilities of
the Organization Officers and BOD
The elected offices of the organization shall be
President/Chair, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary/Newsletter Editor.
Officers of the FLWT are required to be members of the AAW.
The Board of Directors is made up of the Elected Officers
and at least 3 volunteers.
No compensation shall be paid to any Officer or Board
member.
Election of the Officers shall be held every two (2) years
on the even year at the November meeting. Nomination
of the Officers shall take place at the October meeting.
It will be the responsibility of the BOD to ensure that a candidate is
nominated for each office. Officers
shall be elected by a simple majority of a quorum of voting members.
A ballot will be given to all paid members as they enter
the November meeting and collected at the end of the meeting.
The count of the votes will be the combined effort of 2 Board Members.
Old Officers will continue to serve on the BOD until May.
Should any elected office become vacant before it’s time,
it will be the responsibility of the BOD to find and appoint a volunteer to
serve in that slot until the next election.
The President/Chair shall be the principle executive
officer of the organization. This
Officer is responsible for running both the General Monthly Meeting and the
meeting of the Board of Directors.
The Vice President, in the absence of the President, will
perform the duties of the President and have the same responsibilities and
authority as the President.
The Treasurer shall be the custodian of the club monies.
That Office is responsible for the financial collection, deposit and
expenses of the club. A monthly
status report will be given at each club meeting.
The Treasurer is also responsible for maintaining proper membership
records.
The Secretary/Newsletter Editor is responsible to record
and publish a monthly newsletter for the club.
The BOD will have the responsibility of planning all
meetings, demonstrators and events. They
will also be the group responsible for taking any disciplinary actions if
needed.
ARTICLE VIII – The Financial Operation of the
Organization
The BOD has the right to vote on spending up to $250.00 of
the clubs money on discretionary items such as equipment, guest speakers,
challenge projects and gift certificates.
Any expenditure of more than $250.00 will require approval
by a quorum of the voting members.
All monies accrued by the organization shall be deposited
in the organization’s name within 5 business days of collection.
The Treasurer is authorized to keep up to $25.00 in petty
cash available to be spent at the discretion of the President and/or BOD.
ARTICLE IX – GIFT CERTIFICATES
To encourage members to show and share, all members who
bring a turned item to the meeting will be issued a ticket good for one chance
at winning a gift certificate.
To encourage members to take part in the Challenge
Projects, all members who bring a turned Challenge item to the meeting will be
issued a ticket good for one chance at winning a gift certificate.
ARTICLE X – The Modifications of the BY-LAWS of the
Organization
The By-Laws of the Organization may be amended by a simple
majority of a quorum of voting members.
