FLWT Hosts Peter Exton

FLWT Hosts Peter Exton

On Friday and Saturday, February 22nd and 23rd, FLWT will be hosting national speaker Peter Exton (www.peterexton.com).  Peter is well known in the woodturning world for his inside-out/off-center turning technique producing beautiful forms assembled from multiple turned pieces.  You can see some of the details of Peter’s techniques in articles appearing in the February 2010 and December 2012 issues of the AAW Journal.  The differences between the more traditional off-center technique and the methods that Peter uses are that Peter gangs together multiple pieces that are pre-cut to a diamond shape at the band saw before turning them at the lathe.

FLWT will host Mr. Exton for a special Friday night club meeting on February 22nd open to all FLWT members.   During this talk, Peter will discuss with the membership the basics of inside-out turning and will also share his thoughts on how this technique opens up the possibilities for various new directions in woodturning.

On Saturday, February 23rd, we will hold a demonstration where Mr. Exton will be showing his techniques inside-out turning of multiple diamond-shaped pieces and creating a unique sculptural form from the individual pieces.  The demo will start at about 9am and run through early-afternoon with a short break for lunch.  If you plan on attending please plan on bringing your own lunch. The demonstration is open to all and will cost $35.

The Friday meeting and the Saturday demonstration will be held at our normal meeting place:

Isaac Heating & Air Conditioning Training Center
180 Charlotte St
Rochester, N.Y.
