Michael Hosaluk – National Turner, January 17-20, 2019

Finger Lakes Woodtuners (aka FLWT) are partnering with Rochester Woodworkers Society (aka RWS) to host Michael Hosaluk as a national turner demonstrator for the FLWT meeting on Thursday Jan 17, 2019, and Michael will speak at the RWS General Meeting on Friday Jan 18. Finger Lakes members are welcome to attend the RWS session on Friday evening. RWS members are welcome to attend the Finger Lakes meeting on Thursday.

Thursday, and Saturday activities are held at Isaac Heating, 50 Holleder Pkwy, Rochester NY 14615. The Friday RWS meeting is held at St John Fisher

For the Thursday FLWT meeting, Michael will turn an end grain bowl with carved feet and he will discuss addition and subtraction to objects during the demo. He will also discuss the topics that will be covered during the Saturday demonstration.

Saturday Jan 19 will be an all day demonstration by Michael, beginning at 9am and ending about 4pm. For the demo, Michael will demonstrate the following items and perhaps some unannounced additions:

Spindle turning – top, ball, offset candle holder, ladle, spatula,  and microwave bending of spindles

Box making- cutting and reassembled boxes, discuss the many options with box making.

Turning very thin-small thin bowl covering cutting techniques and scraping.

There is a $35. fee for the Saturday Workshop and you can register here.

There is a $65. fee for the  Sunday workshop, which will be held at St Michael’s Woodshop located at 691 St Paul St, Rochester, NY 14605 beginning at 9am and running to about 4pm, and you can register here.

Participants may select one or more of the items from the list of demonstration topics above, or they are encouraged to bring a piece they are working on if they want some one on one advice and guidance from Michael. Details about getting to St Michael’s, and other information about the workshop will be supplied to the participants after they register.

Lunch will be available for Saturday and Sunday for $10. per person each day, and it can be ordered in the morning when you arrive. Lunch will be assorted sub sandwiches, chips, and cookie, from DiBella’s., plus water to drink, or participants can bring their own lunch.
