Folks attending at St Michael's Woodshop should plan to arrive no earlier than 6:30, to insure that the student program has finished for the day. Participants enter through the main entrance to sign in with building security.

Zoom information will be emailed to current FLWT members a few days in advance of the meeting.

Following our Monthly Meeting, we will engage in 2 live demonstrations with David Gould for an Introduction to Coloring with Alcohol Dyes.

Demonstration #1
Using the “Float” technique on a hollow form.  The Float technique involves burnishing and seal-coating the wood to be dyed so that no dye penetrates the surface of the piece. The dyes “float” and blend on the surface of the piece. This technique enhances the vividness of the dyes used and will demonstrate what can be achieved by blending colors. The demonstration is a reprise of one by Gary Lowe of Scotland on YouTube.

Demonstration #2
Traditional dying of well sanded wood.  Coloring and properly finishing the rim of a platter will be the object of the demonstration. Darker dye will be used and then sanded back to highlight the end grain in the platter rim as further application of dyes blend and build for a final lacquer finish with abrasive waxes and microcrystalline wax. The demonstration is a reprise of parts of several demonstrations on YouTube, notably, by Mike Nish of Craft Supplies.
